Results of recent public consultation ( Feb 2025)

Thank you for your feedback

In February, we asked for your feedback following the announcement of our ambition to build a new home for the Copper Kingdom collection on Parys Mountain.

The survey, which was available in English and Welsh, ran from 15-22 February and received 126 responses (112 in English and 14 in Welsh).

The key findings were:

Demographics and Interests

  • 73% of respondents were residents of Amlwch / North Anglesey
  • Most popular interests: Heritage (119), Outdoor activities (101), Welsh Culture (85)
  • Desired attractions: Local heritage (107), Indoor wet weather attractions (98), Outdoor activities (80)

Visitation Patterns

  • 119 (94%) respondents have visited Parys Mountain
  • 85 (67%) have visited the Copper Kingdom Centre
  • 58 visit similar venues at least once a month, 37 visit weekly

Desired Features for New Attraction

  1. Cafe social space and toilets 99 (78%)
  2. Expert talks on heritage and history 92 (73%)
  3. Guided outdoor heritage trail walks 87 (70%)
  4. Outdoor cultural events (73)
  5. School visits (70)

Key Recommendations from public consultation

  • Essential facilities: parking, toilets, café with a view
  • Educational exhibits: museum, guided tours, historical displays
  • Indoor exhibition space with interactive and self-guided tours
  • Inclusive facilities for diverse visitors, including those with disabilities
  • Preserve natural beauty and avoid over-commercialization
  • Improve waste management and signage
  • Balance development with preservation of the site’s unique character
  • Suggestions for linking cultural sites through transportation
  • Proposals for community engagement and activities promoting Welsh culture
  • Importance of connecting the attraction with the town and port

The survey results and social media comments indicate strong support for a balanced approach that incorporates local history, outdoor activities, and practical amenities while preserving Parys Mountain’s unique character.

The preferences expressed by the respondents align closely to our own ethos and plans, which confirms that -if successful – our project will reflect the requirements and wishes of the local community and other stakeholders. This will now help us as we develop our plans and reach out to potential seed funders

Thank you for your support.
